So, perhaps you may have noticed that I’ve been this kind of series about Xbox 360 vs. PS3, so to continue here’s the next installment.  The PS3 is rumored to be having a price cut anywhere in the range from $50-$100. A slim PS3 is also rumored; however, nothing has been confirmed. On the Xbox 360 side of think, the Elite Model (black, $399) has been rumored to be having a price cut of $100.

Alright, so both consoles are getting price cuts, but which one will have greater effect? When looking at the 360, it seems that it’s not really a price-cut. Why? Well, the Pro model of the 360 costs $299 right now.  The Elite is $399. Microsoft is trying to fool people by basically offering a black Pro model with more memory at the same price ($299) and removing the pro model altogether. Very ingenious, and I implore you not to fall for it. The PS3 on the other hand is getting a TRUE price cut. If the rumors are true, then the PS3 is getting a $100 price cut. That mean that the PS3 would become a lot more affordable at a starting price of $299 instead of $399.

Given all this evidence, it seems that the PS3′s price cut would have greater effect due to it actually being a price cut. So what’s the point of this rant? Don’t be fooled by a 360 “price cut.” If you want to save money and still have a PS3 then just wait a bit. August 18 (GamesCon) is almost here and all our doubts will be vanquished. Well, that brings this to a closure, thank you for reading and say tuned.

  1. Greenberg said the price drop is a direct result of lowered production costs.

    • Yes, it would appear so; however, if you follow the news you’ll notice how strong the PS3 slim rumors were for a few months before it was announced. Microsoft knew the potential moment Sony could gain from a Price cut/slim. As you can see they were right, and the Slim is selling out everywhere. As much as they deny it, MS’ pricecut is to directly compete with the PS3 price cut. Sure, it’s speculation so we’ll never know, but it’s fun :)

The PS3 did the same thing in it’s first year. Go back to school and learn some proper grammar and spelling and stop playing video games.

    • Exactly my point. They offered more memory with 80 GB PS3 model. Just like I said here, Sony was also playing mind games and people should have seen that.
