gc-2009-ps3-slim-and-price-drop-announced-20090818112008222-000Today, Sony has announced that they will be releasing a Slim version of the PS3 during the first week of September. The new SKU will feature a 120 GB HDD, Wifi, and Bluray (all the features of current models) and will retail for $299.  Current models will be getting pricecuts starting tomorrow August 19.

If you have yet to buy  a PS3 there is no better time. At $299 the PS3 is the console offering the greatest value. If you already have a 360 you might want to compliment it with a PS3 slim considering the PS3 is getting a LOT of exclusive titles. I’d suggest that, if you want to buy one, you should think about pre-ordering. From the way things are looking it appears the PS3 slim will be in high demand and you might have a hard time finding one on store shelves. Best of luck to you all.

Below you’ll find an unboxing video of the PS3 slim:

So, perhaps you may have noticed that I’ve been this kind of series about Xbox 360 vs. PS3, so to continue here’s the next installment.  The PS3 is rumored to be having a price cut anywhere in the range from $50-$100. A slim PS3 is also rumored; however, nothing has been confirmed. On the Xbox 360 side of think, the Elite Model (black, $399) has been rumored to be having a price cut of $100.

Alright, so both consoles are getting price cuts, but which one will have greater effect? When looking at the 360, it seems that it’s not really a price-cut. Why? Well, the Pro model of the 360 costs $299 right now.  The Elite is $399. Microsoft is trying to fool people by basically offering a black Pro model with more memory at the same price ($299) and removing the pro model altogether. Very ingenious, and I implore you not to fall for it. The PS3 on the other hand is getting a TRUE price cut. If the rumors are true, then the PS3 is getting a $100 price cut. That mean that the PS3 would become a lot more affordable at a starting price of $299 instead of $399.

Given all this evidence, it seems that the PS3′s price cut would have greater effect due to it actually being a price cut. So what’s the point of this rant? Don’t be fooled by a 360 “price cut.” If you want to save money and still have a PS3 then just wait a bit. August 18 (GamesCon) is almost here and all our doubts will be vanquished. Well, that brings this to a closure, thank you for reading and say tuned.

PS3 vs. Xbox 360- Graphics

Posted in Gaming, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , , on August 15, 2009 by Saaking

gears1Graphics are on of the most important things to looks at  in a game. So important, in fact, that’s become a factor that can make or break a game. Developers are constantly pushing forwards to new levels with no end in sight. So the begs us to ask the question, which of HD twins has the best graphics? Well, let’s find out.

3 years, 8 months ago we were introduced to the next generation of gaming.  We didn’t know what to expect over the following year and, needless to say, we were not disappointed. 2006 saw the release of Gears of War, a launch title for the Xbox 360 the utilized the Unreal Engine 3. It blew away our minds with amazing textures and animations and gameplay like no other. It WAS truly next generation and we all knew it would only get better. With the release of the PS3 came Uncharted. The game we all remember. Uncharted was and still is amongst the best looking games ever and a technical feat.

So, enough reminiscing, which console has better graphics? Most developers state that both consoles have around the same power. Both consoles use a different architecture and it has been established the the PS3 is harder to develop for as it has a larger learning curve; however, we’ve also seen what the PS3 can do. Killzone 2 is, without a doubt, the best looking console game today. If you play it on your HDTV you’ll know that and you won’t deny it. Given the current evidence, it would seem the PS3 can pull out better graphics. Gears of War 2 is still the best looking 360 game and it’s quite obvious that Killzone 2 far exceeds it.

While developers say they’re both roughly equal, I’d have to say that, as of today, the PS3 is the more powerful console. Uncharted 2 looks incredible and if you saw footage of God of War 3 then that’s more than enough to satisfy any self-proclaimed graphics whore. If you’re looking for the console with most horsepower and best graphics, you won’t go wrong with the PS3.

PS3 vs. Xbox 360- Best 2009 Exclusive Lineup

Posted in Gaming, Information, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , on August 11, 2009 by Saaking

godofwar3date

It’s the eighth month of the year already. Went by so fast and vacation is almost over. The holiday season is just over the horizon and with it comes tons of blockbusters, but the question is: Which console had the best exclusives this year?

Exclusive games are what make a console unique. Consumers look at these games, which cannot be played on any other console, and they make their choice.  So let me start by saying this, Xbox 360 has been a huge disappointment this year.  It hasn’t had a single AAA (90+ on Metacritic) exclusive all year long and it’s highest rated game was Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game. The PS3 on the other hand has enjoyed a steady stream of AAA titles with Killzone 2 and MLB 09: The Show, along with the well received inFAMOUS. As you can see the 360′s highest rated exclusive is lower then the PS3′s lowest rated exclusive.

So now, let’s look at the coming months. These are some of the upcoming exclusive games for each system:

PS3:

  • Demon’s Soul (TPS, RPG)
  • Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time (TPS, Platformer)
  • Uncharted 2 (TPS, Action-Adventure)
  • MAG (FPS)
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (Hack-and-Slash)
  • Eyepet (virtual pet)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (Racer, possible 2009 release date)

Xbox 360

  • Left 4 Dead 2 (FPS, also on PC)
  • Forza 3 (Racer)
  • Halo 3 ODST (FPS, Halo 3 expansion)

(If you don’t understand what’s in parenthesis please go to “Pages” on the side bar  and click on “Abbreviations”)

As you can see above there’s a huge difference between both platforms and I’m sure I’m missing some PS3 exclusives. There’s no denying that the PS3 has been THE console to own this year considering all the exclusives and multiplats (games that come to both PS3/360) that have been coming out. If you still haven’t bough a console and you can afford to spend the extra cash, the PS3 is certainly the way to go. Follow me on twitter for the latest updates. Thank you for reading.
